Matching The Bag To The Wedding Outfit Receiving an invitation to attend the wedding of a friend or relative should be a thrill. You imagine a beautiful summer's day, a glorious setting, indeed a very happy occasion. Then comes the hard part, 'what shall I wear'?

You now have 3 months to find the perfect outfit, hat, shoes and bag. Where do you start?

First, decide on a budget you can afford and stick to it. When you hit the shops, it's so easy to get carried away.

Next decide on a style - sleek and elegant or flowery and feminine. Dress or suit?

Which would you feel more comfortable wearing? Are you slim enough to carry off a dress or like most of us, are there little bits you like to hide and would feel more at ease in a suit with a jacket?

Next, pick a colour. What suits you? What colours have you been complimented on before? Try to find out what colour the 'mother of the bride' is wearing, you don't want to clash.

I always think that clean simple lines are the most flattering, be it a well cut dress and jacket or a skirt suit. Trouser suits are also a popular choice.

Remember that when you have got the basics right, it's the accessories that will make the outfit.

It is very, very hard to colour match a hat, bag and shoes. For example, say you choose a peach suit and find the perfect hat in a deeper shade of peach. What do you do about the rest? Trying to find a matching peach shade of handbag and shoes will be almost impossible.

There are so many shades of each colour and store lighting is never the same as daylight, so you don't really know if you have found a match or not. You might like to do your shopping on the internet - remember that colours vary on each computer screen. Save yourself a lot of hassle and pick complimentary colours.

A peach outfit will look good with grey, silver or gold

A grey suit will look good with black, silver, lilac or purple

One of the best options is to choose silver shoes and a silver bag, that way colour match is no problem and you should be able to use them again.
