Animal prints in fashion

posted on 3 January 2010 | posted in Handbag and fashion Articles

Animal prints have always paid a part in fashion and it looks like the trend is set to continue. Personally, I like to see animal print accessories used to advantage, not overdone. A simple scarf or one of the new trendy fashion handbags can add the purr fect finishing touch.

Fashion goes wild for animal prints

If you’re looking to move fashionably forward, animal prints can propel you from one year into the next without missing a beat.
“For the conservative wardrobe, they can be used to highlight an animal instinct and for the true fashionista, dressing in animal prints is a statement in seduction,” says Montreal-based fashion designer Simon Chang.
Although leopard and other wildcat motifs dominate the fashion jungle, other highly prized animal print patterns include zebra and snake prints.
Dress to express your enthusiasm for the zoological, by wearing animal print patterns in large clothing items such as jackets, coats, dresses, pencil skirts and tops.
Show an even greater sense of fashion confidence by breaking away from animal prints in traditional earth and natural tones, and opting for those in shades of red, fuchsia, violet, green and teal.
“Designers like me try to push the envelope a bit, with different fabrics and colours and even by exaggerating the animal print to create excitement, but this can be tricky and may not be for everyone," says Toronto-based fashion designer Franco Mirabelli.
"Wear bright, over-sized leopard and tiger print tops and shirts if you’d like to stand out; but even smaller, more subtle, monochromatic prints will still give you that fashion hit.”
Fearless creative types may successfully mix and match various animal print patterns, colours and textures in one outfit, but many will feel more comfortable sticking with the traditional advice of wearing just one animal print item such as a blouse, sweater or jacket with a plain top or bottom.
Animal print cardigans and jackets are easy to find and easy to wear. Wildcat print jackets fashioned from velvety, plush materials rock a slightly retro vibe and can add richly textured warmth to dresses, skirts and jeans alike.
If you should happen to prefer less obvious forms of wild life, you can still be the cat’s meow in whimsical leopard print underwear, or by choosing a coat, jacket or bag with an animal print lining.
“Animal prints are feminine and sexy and can be incorporated into any wardrobe and molded to suit your individual style," says Olga Koel, a spokesperson for Danier. "Choose a fabulous coat or jacket with a fierce animal print lining with just enough of a pop to make you feel fabulous.”
Adding a few leopard print accessories to your wardrobe can also help to keep your look lively.
Leopard print bags, belts, shoes, boots and tights such as those shown by designers Michael Kors, Christian Louboutin and Liz Claiborne can also help you to prowl through the rest of the winter in style.
